Science Ambassadors in the Community
Paul Jarrett, BOC graduate engineer in Leeds, demonstrated an ‘It’s a Gas!’ style show at the Leeds University Chemistry department Christmas lecture to over 200 secondary school children and their teachers. He concentrated on the properties and applications of nitrogen, carbon dioxide and helium.
Teesside Science Ambassador, Ian Williamson, has been taking his nitrogen demonstrations all over the north east of England. Illuminating the freezing and shrinking properties of liquid nitrogen, children of all ages had chance to join in the fun.
Four BOC Science Ambassadors held a holiday workshop at the University of Hertfordshire. This three day course was run with the Smallpiece Trust, a charity organisation set up to encourage children into a career in engineering. One youngster said: “The people from BOC told us about what they do at work, it all seemed really exciting”
