BOC with the RSC at the ASE

Nigel Abbott, BOC’s Communications Director linked up with Colin Osborne from the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) to give a talk at the Association of Science Education (ASE) Conference in the first week of January 2006. They were assisted by Mat Jozwiak, BOC Science Ambassador, who carried out simple experiments used in Science Centres and schools.

The presentation outlined the role of BOC in supporting education in the community, and provided and insight into the ‘It’s a Gas!’ show for schools, the range of free teaching resources available to teachers, and the role of the BOC science ambassadors. A lively two-way conversation took place at the end of the talk covering topics from obtaining small quantities of gas to BOC’s support internationally. The BOC team was able to learn from the teachers’ experiences and to take on board the positive suggestions for further developments. “We thought it was a worthwhile debate and we hope this can help shape elements of the scheme in the future” commented Nigel.
