Science Ambassadors making science fun in Surrey

The things our children say! As well as describing the BOC presentation at her school as “the coolest science lesson I have ever had”, Kiah Wright took a little additional time to add the following postscript.

“My mum says that gases are very important because they make beer and champagne fizzy”

Andrew Webster, a BOC Manager, was able to conjure up some science ‘magic’ for his local school recently by presenting to 60 Year 5 children at Busbridge Junior School, Godalming. These 10 year olds were clearly enthralled by the practical and memorable experiments of the BOC ‘It’s a Gas!’ demonstration as shown in the following comments. (Shown as written)

“You have taught me that YOU SHOULD NOT PLAY WITH LIQUID NITROGEN, AT ALL!!! Plus rockets are run on hydrogen, helium sucking is dangerous and drinks are fizzed by CO2” – Toran Nicholl

“I enjoyed the whole talk especially when you froze flowers, washing-up gloves, fruit and a sausage! Totally amazing!” – Jemima Webster

“My favorite part was when you froze the the banana and used it to bang in a nail.” – Elliot Thornton

Science Ambassadors in Surrey proved just how ‘cool’ science can be.

The junior girls of Bramley School, Tadworth, were treated to a number of exciting experiments using liquid nitrogen and dry ice pellets carried out by BOC Science Ambassadors Lucy Mills and Dave Wardle. However, the highlight of the show was the freezing experiment when the group witnessed the making of chocolate chip ice cream - that everyone then enjoyed eating. Clearly, this was a perfect end to the performance - with a very ‘satisfied’ audience.
